    Product Description
The PlayStation 3 console, described by Sony boss Ken Kutaragi as a "supercomputer for computer entertainment," will be available in 2006 and will combine state-of-the-art technology with next-gen digital media and high storage capacity.

As rumoured, the PS3 will utilise the new Blu-Ray disc format, which can hold up to six times as much data as the PS2's DVD discs--though it'll also be backwards-compatible with both PS2 and PSone games. It'll have slots for Sony Memory Stick Duo plus an SD slot, a compact flash memory slot, and a slot for a detachable 2.5GB hard disk drive.

The technical heart of the PS3 wil be its Cell processor, which will run at 3.2GHz-- giving the whole system 2 teraflops of overall performance. It'll have 256MB XDR main RAM at 3.2GHz, and 256MB of GDDR VRAM at 700MHz. The nVidia graphics chip--the RSX--will, according to Sony, mean that "entirely new graphical expressions that have never been seen before will become possible. In games, not only will movement of characters and objects be far more refined and realistic, but landscapes and virtual worlds can also be rendered in real-time, thereby elevating the freedom of graphics expression to levels not experienced in the past. Gamers will literally be able to dive into the realistic world seen in large screen movies and experience the excitement in real-time."

The PS3's controllers are shaped like boomerangs and use Bluetooth wireless technology; up to seven can be connected at one time. The PSP can also communicate wirelessly with the PS3 for use as an exra screen or controller--more functionality will undoubtedly be released soon. The PS3 also includes six USB slots for other peripherals such as the wireless HD IP camera--the successor to the EyeToy.

Not many details have yet emerged of the PS3's online features, though Sony have said that it will have "always on" functionality and will continuously connect users to a network "fundamentally based on a on community, communication, commerce, and content"--similar to the Xbox 360's Marketplace functionality.

Also like the Xbox 360, the PS3 will be more than just a games console--features will include web access, video chat, and the capability to utilise digital photos, audio and video.

Games in development include Gran Turismo 5, Tekken 6, Metal Gear Solid 4, The Getaway 3, Devil May Cry 4 and Warhawk Redux.

Well the PS3 is getting released next spring in japan but what about here? will we have to wait until november or will Sony for once be considerate to it's loyal fanbase and release worldwide within a few weeks
In terms of performance the 360 and PS3 are almost the same the PS3 CAN'T do 2 teraflops Sony exaggerated with their specs just as much as killzone was pre-rendered, but this won't stop it being a top system as will still be a hell of a lot better than PS2 and revolution and it will have the likes of Metal Gear Solid and Tekken and will also have GTA4 at least 6 months before 360 gets it, but the first initial batch of games will be crap as developers get used to the 7 SPE cell architecture.

Don't get me wrong i will be getting all three consoles for differing games (Project Gotham, Metal Gear Solid and Zelda to name a few) but i am sick and fed up with the fanboys and also the idiots that don't have any business sense saying Sony will release at $700 the PS3 will NOT launch above $429.99 £300 and a cut down version at $329.99 £200 Sony are'nt stupid they know the importance of these prices and they are prepared to lose a lot of money for the first 3 years then they will start to see profits from the actual console

4 out of 5 stars Looking Good, But I Reckon the Xbox360 has still Won It., August 20, 2005

Im an Xbox fan, but obviously, i cant deny that the PS3 is looking good. But i still think the xbox360 is gonna win da wars. The 360 has a much better launch lineup than he PS3 by far, and the quality produced is almost identical. I reccomend taking a look at the 360 before making your final decision. I read very hard about the PS3 and the Xbox360 before coming to my final conclusion. But the xbox360 is so much better in every way possible.

i admit i havent played the PS3 but im basing this, round up on the revealed stuff. the ps3 is sonys 4th games machine (ps1,ps2,psp)and from what the world has seen it could be good. sleek looking with a controller that will come back if you throw it in rage. The games are looking fantastic,
    Killzone
    Motorstorm
    I-8
    Fight Night
    Gran Turismo
